In 2018, I wrote a short story about a man who made a bucket list of all the things that he wanted to accomplish before dying. He felt that his life was stale and by ticking off items from the bucket list, he would be satisfied with the life he had lived.
At the top of Warren’s list was having a child. He thought that he would make a great father and that providing the best possible life for his child would make him happy.
Warren and his wife, Mandeline, tried to have a child for months but were unsuccessful. Apart from biological birth, the other solutions didn’t seem viable to them. Yet, they kept searching for one.
During a barbeque, Warren’s friend introduces him to Gisele, a redhead stripper who’s tired of running around with playboys and wants to settle down.
Warren loves his wife and remains loyal to her but that doesn’t stop Gisele from making a move on him because she values the stability that Warren will provide to her.
While at home, Warren receives a phone call from Gisele. She’s frantic because she believes an intruder is in her yard. Wanting to help, Warren rushes over to her house.
He scopes out the yard and then assures Gisele that she’s safe. She thanks him for his valiant effort and offers him a drink. And that’s the last thing that Warren remembers from that night.
Once I completed the short story, I saw that the plot was incomplete. There were more subplots that I could add to make the story more exciting. And that’s exactly what I did.
I decided to expand on the short story and turn it into a novel. My Wife and Girlfriend was my debut novel, and I was nervous about the reviews.
It turned out that most of the people enjoyed the story. Sure, there were some who didn’t, but that’s the case for most books.
Considering that the book received positive feedback, I decided to work on the sequel. I’m still busy working on it, but I will publish it this year. And I’m quite excited about the release.
