I’ve been keeping my eye on the fertility rate for the last couple of years, and its trajectory is alarming. The fertility rate was 2.39 in 2020, and it’s currently at 2.09. That might not sound like a significant change, but it is.
For us to maintain the number of humans in the future, a woman will have to give birth to at least 2.1 children. We’re currently below that number, and it seems to be getting worse.
There are several reasons for the fertility rate plummeting such as the rise in the cost of living, an increase in the number of couples opting not to have children and other socio-economic factors.
But I believe there’s an even bigger reason, and it’s got to do with sex.
Fewer people, men in particular, are having sex. Why? Because many women disqualify most men from being potential suitors. If they won’t date men whom they deem to be average, they’re certainly not going to have sex with them.
Most women want the top 10% of men. Those men have a tremendous amount of options, and many women are sharing them.
The standards for what women find attractive in men have increased substantially. Long gone are the days when it was enough for a man to attract a beautiful woman by being tall, charming and an average earner. The first two characteristics are important, but they’re not enough.
In today’s world, many women expect men to make, at least, six figures. And I’m not talking about $100,000 annually. No, sir. They want men who are bringing home more than $250,000. But remember, you have to be tall, handsome, funny, strong, caring, kind, love animals, not pick your nose and ten other things that she requires.
Many women consider most men to be economically unattractive.
Most guys are disqualified just because they don’t make $250,000 annually. Only a small portion of men meet their stringent requirements. And that doesn’t seem to be changing. Most women are not prepared to settle for anything less than that. There’s no compromise with them. Forget it.
Many men are involuntarily celibate. That’s the sad state of affairs, and it’s one of the reasons that they’re turning to sites such as Only Fans. They’re willing to pay a subscription just to have a girl reply to their message.
That’s what we’ve devolved to as society.
My father attracted a high-quality woman by being tall, handsome and charming. That’s it. That was enough. He made an average salary and lived with his parents when he met my mother. If only we lived in that world.
There certainly are some women who still care more about a man’s personality and will accept him if he’s an average earner as long as he makes up for the shortfalls with his personality. But those women are extremely scarce, and the men who have them are doing everything to please them. So, you can pretty much forget about having your turn with them. They’re taken and will probably be for the rest of their lives.
What’s the solution?
Something’s gotta give. Otherwise, we’re doomed as a society. And that’s not hyperbole. Eventually, we, the human species, will be completely wiped out. When the fertility rate drops to an extremely low number, it will be impossible to reproduce at such a high rate that’s necessary to get back to the current numbers or even to sustain a society.
Either, women are going to have to lower their standards and revert to the criteria that their grandmothers used. Or, men will need to increase their earnings exponentially. I’m for both. Men should step up, and women should take a step down with their ludicrous and delusional standards.
That’s the only way we can continue to reproduce at the required rate.
